Foolscap Press was founded in 1990 by Lawrence G. Van Velzer and Peggy Gotthold. Their titles are original first-editions or texts not easily available to the reading public. Foolscap Press books are printed letterpress and hand bound in editions under 200 copies. They also produce limited-edition bindings for other publishers as well as portfolio boxes and general book repairs for individuals and institutions.

Catherine Kanner became publisher of The Melville Press In 1995, and has worked as a free-lance designer and illustrator since 1980. She has been a regular contributor to the Los Angeles Times Opinion Section since 1980, with her work syndicated to 2000 newspapers in the U.S. and 1,000 worldwide. She has written, illustrated and designed more than 17 books including her own texts (The Book of the Bath, Beauty From a Country Garden), as well as numerous books for other authors (Michael Crichton’s Timeline, Fun With Ballet, San Francisco Access, Angelina's Ballet Class). She has a line of 75 greeting cards with Michel & Company, and has designed products for The Metropolitan Opera Guild in New York. She has won numerous illustration and design awards including the Society of Newspaper Design Award, Print’s Regional Design Award, the Louie Award and Rounce & Coffin Awards for excellence in book design. Catherine Kanner teaches illustration and design at the Otis College of Art & Design in Los Angeles where she has been a faculty member since 1981.

Allwyn O'Mara is a book engineer. She provides book binding and structural  design services for book artists and fine press publishers. Ms. O'Mara lives in  Burbank, California.

The Tortoise Press John Robinson is owner of The Tortoise Press, and produces fine letterpress editions in his San Diego California studio.

Windowpane Press Bonnie Thompson Norman works full time as a hand bookbinder in a large commercial bindery. She has a letterpress printing and book arts studio at home where she teaches classes. In her spare time, she makes her own books. Her entire house and studio is filled with books which she has (1) already read, or hopes to soon, (2) has hand-printed and/or bound, or (3) simply acquired because they are beautiful.
